Covid-19 : Suspend mass registration – Medical Association to NIA

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has asked the National Identification Authority as a matter of urgency halt its mass registration in the Eastern Region.

GMA in a press statement said the mass registration did not only defy the president’s directives to halt all social gatherings but also create a fertile ground for the potential spread of the deadly novel coronavirus.

The Association is also appealing to civil society groups, corporate bodies to complement the efforts of government in combating the COVID_19.

Already, the Ghana Health Service and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, have warned that Ghana could record more cases of the virus

“It is the considered view of the GMA that this mass registration activity by the NIA if allowed to continue, could create a fertile ground for the potential spread of the COVID_19 endangering the lives of the staff of the NIA, the communities involved and the entire nation in the process.” part of the statement read.

So far the country has recorded seven coronavirus cases.
