President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday inspected ongoing works on Odawna-Sahara drainage project as part of efforts to mitigate the incidence of flooding in the city.
The construction works comprise the reconstruction of a concrete rectangular covered drain measuring 3.5mx 2.0mx520m length, block to intercept and convey stormwater flows from the Fitters’ area into the Odaw Drain as well as side drains in the area.
The Minister, Mr Samual Atta Akyea who led the President to inspect the project on day two of his tour of the Graeter Accra Region, said, the project which is near completion would go a long way to help mitigate the perennial flooding.
“The construction of the drain has tremendously transformed the area, mitigated the perennial flooding, and brought great relief to the residents of the area who used to evacuate their homes as soon as rain clouds began to gather,” he said.
He assured that the drains would be covered with culverts to prevent people from dumping refuse into drain adding that a 100 metre of the drain has so far been constructed.
